Background of the Study:
Trade unions are instrumental in advocating for workers' rights and ensuring employment stability across various sectors. In Ijebu-Ode LGA, Ogun State, these unions play a critical role in negotiating employment terms and protecting workers from arbitrary dismissal (Oluwaseun, 2023). This study evaluates the impact of trade unions on employment stability, examining how collective bargaining and union interventions contribute to job security and fair labor practices. Trade unions have historically been associated with improved wages, better working conditions, and greater job continuity. However, challenges such as reduced union membership and evolving labor market dynamics pose questions about their contemporary relevance (Adebisi, 2024). The study will analyze union strategies, worker experiences, and employer practices to assess the effectiveness of trade unions in fostering employment stability. By integrating empirical data and case studies, this research aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation of union impact on job security in Ijebu-Ode, offering insights for both policymakers and labor organizations (Oluwaseun, 2023).
Statement of the Problem:
Despite the historical significance of trade unions in promoting employment stability, workers in Ijebu-Ode LGA face challenges related to job security and fair labor practices. Reduced union influence, coupled with changing labor market conditions, has undermined the effectiveness of union interventions (Adebisi, 2024). Many workers experience job instability and inadequate protections, leading to increased vulnerability and economic uncertainty. This study seeks to identify the specific factors that limit the impact of trade unions on employment stability and propose measures to enhance their role in safeguarding workers' rights and ensuring long-term job security (Oluwaseun, 2023).
